The West Maui Taxpayers Association Inc. (WMTA), recognized a new President today, Joseph D Pluta, who was a former President of the WMTA and a founding
Director nearly 40 years ago.
The WMTA bylaws state that a director’s position automatically becomes vacant when a member of the WMTA board officially becomes a candidate for public office which was the case of former President Frederick “Rick,” Nava.
Mr. Nava served 4 years on the WMTA board, the last two of which he held the office of President.
The WMTA board acknowledged Mr. Nava’s outstanding contributions to the
West Maui Community for many years at their monthly meeting this morning, June 12, 2018. Mr. Nava pledged his commitment to the WMTA board in a statement to continue to support the WMTA goals and objectives in the pursuit of his new political objective serving the West Maui Community as the Council Member representing West Maui.
The WMTA is hosting a Primary Candidates Night at the Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 5 p.m. This will be the only known forum of its kind in West Maui and will only feature the Candidates for Maui Mayor, Wet Maui County Council, State Representative, District 10, and State Senate District 6. West Maui is a unique and vibrant community that provides employment opportunities and generates significant tax revenues for the State and County government. Over 50% of the County of Maui Property Taxes are collected from properties in West Maui.
