PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE – Joseph D. Pluta
Aloha Dear Friends of West Maui.
This is the time of year when we pause and reflect on thankfulness before the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. As I and many others lost our homes and businesses, we are thankful to be still alive and here in paradise. We have an opportunity to unite as a stronger connected community to make Lahaina better and safer. Our fire station at Olowalu is evidence of our commitment and literally a miracle in process.
The Lahaina Fires have changed everything. We are not the same. We continue to feel the strong desire to seek and reprioritize health and safety improvements and emergency preparedness as well as attention to homelessness and mental health assistance. These crisis issues should be our primary focus.
The WMTA 2025 Annual Meeting will be on Thursday, December 11,2025, from 4:30m-7pm. The meeting will be at the West Maui Veterans Hall, 198 Fleming Road, Lahaina, HI 96761.
As always, Complimentary food and beverages will be served and door prize opportunities awarded for all attendees at the end of important community update presentations including West Maui Hospital update. The Annual Meeting will allow for meeting our bylaw requirement for the election of Directors and will take less than 15 minutes to be followed by remarks from our elected governmental representatives including our Mayor Richard Bissen.
We all know that West Maui is a unique and vibrant community that provides employment opportunities and generates significant tax revenues for all levels of government. WMTA is also unique in that our mission is to promote efficient use of the taxes generated to invest in infrastructure, services and amenities that help ensure that West Maui remains one of the best places to live, work and visit in the world. We respectfully ask you to join us as membership connectivity makes us stronger.
It’s been said that our dreams become reality when we engage and build partnerships that can change the world. That’s precisely what the WMTA and WMIF are all about. We have already done what was said to be impossible and we are still on that same path with our Olowalu Fire Station and more. Join us and be a part of the solution!
