The WMTA Primary Candidates Night is the only forum of its kind in West Maui – and will only feature the Candidates for the following: Maui Mayor, West Maui County Council, State Representative Dist 10, State Senator Dist 06. West Maui is a unique and vibrant community that provides employment opportunities and generates significant tax revenues for the all levels of government. WMTA is also unique in that our mission is to promote efficient use of the taxes generated to invest in infrastructure, services and amenities that help ensure that West Maui remains one of the best places to live, work and visit in the world. As the WMTA Primary Candidates Night is for West Maui voter education, we ask that any candidate attending please refrain from bringing a large contingent of supporters. No signs, banners or other campaign materials will be allowed inside the Civic Center, and all election activities must be conducted outside. Anyone displaying disruptive or disrespectful behavior will be asked to leave. There will be a dinner service provided by local businesses and restaurants. Tuesday, June 12, 2018 The West Maui Taxpayers Association Inc. (WMTA), recognized a new President today, Joseph D Pluta, who was a former President of the WMTA and a founding Director nearly 40 years ago. The WMTA bylaws state that a director’s position automatically becomes vacant when a member of the WMTA board officially becomes a candidate for public office which was the case of former President Frederick “Rick,” Nava. Mr. Nava served 4 years on the WMTA board, the last two of which he held the office of President. The WMTA board acknowledged Mr. Nava’s outstanding contributions to the West Maui Community for many years at their monthly meeting this morning, June 12, 2018. Mr. Nava pledged his commitment to the WMTA board in a statement to continue to support the WMTA goals and objectives in the pursuit of his new political objective serving the West Maui Community as the Council Member representing West Maui. The WMTA is hosting a Primary Candidates Night at the Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 5 p.m. This will be the only known forum of its kind in West Maui and will only feature the Candidates for Maui Mayor, Wet Maui County Council, State Representative, District 10, and State Senate District 6. West Maui is a unique and vibrant community that provides employment opportunities and generates significant tax revenues for the State and County government.
